Short version: no accounts, no ads, no selling data. Your bibliography lives in your browser.

What’s stored in your browser

When you press “Add to bibliography”, the source details and any annotations are saved in your browser’s localStorage under keys beginning with citeforge:, along with the style you last chose. They never leave your device unless you copy or download them. Clearing your browser data removes them, or use the button below.

What’s sent when you use Autofill

• DOIs go from your browser to Crossref’s public API; ISBNs are looked up by our server in Open Library (or Google Books as a fallback).
• Links are sent to our server, which fetches that public page once to read its title, author and date, then forgets it.
• Pasted references and annotation notes (only when you press the button) are sent through Vercel AI Gateway to an AI model to be processed, and aren’t stored by CiteForge. Don’t paste personal information.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page views. It’s cookieless and doesn’t collect personal data. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.
